![]() ![]() ![]() I usually use British No 1 size brushes, Rosemary, W&N and so forth. The first issue was me using the biggest brush on a figure around an inch high. So, with much humming and beard stroking, I headed back to my painting table. They've both got far too much to lose to risk punting out a poor quality brush. These are a premium product, with a huge personal investment from one of the most popular, up and coming painters on social media, working in partnership with Germany's top brush manufacturer. Having slept on it, I figured I had to be doing something wrong. Thoroughly deflated, I washed the brush and headed off to bed. Repeatedly! I stuck at it all evening, but the harder I tried, the worse things got. ![]() The full belly of the brush- I'll come back to that- holds a huge amount of paint, which it proceeded to drench the mini with. Worse, the hair was much softer than I as expecting, bending and splaying almost as soon as I touched hair to plastic. The brush refused to hold a fine point, making detail work tricky. Things didn't exactly go according to plan. I chose the 'L' brush and eagerly got stuck in! The minis are simple, the detail is crisp and they're all pretty open, allowing easy access for your brush.Īnd the brushes themselves are beyond gorgeous! They're probably the best looking brushes I've ever seen: (A box I enjoyed so much I grabbed another when I started to run out of minis to paint from the original.) The results were illuminating, to say the least.įirst, the chaps, from the old Dark Vengeance box set. Well, last month I finally got a chance to dust them down and see for myself. Mine were delivered on time, looked absolutely gorgeous and got thrown into the 'ready use' drawer, to be given a months long ignoring to until I could finally find some time to use them. Reviewers shilled the heck out of them- they were undeniably the best mini brushes on the market! Some backers weren't so sure, with complaints of late delivery and serious quality control issues popping up all over the place. This message was edited 1 time.Last year, youtube phenomenon and professional painter Emil Nystrom, better known as 'Squidmar', crowdfunded a set of Kolinsky paintbrushes, aimed specifically at miniature painters. The winning bidder only had 3 feedback I think also. Well, I think there is a chance the payment doesn't go through. The only people in the world who could buy that, for that much conformably without a screw loose are multi-millionaires, so maybe that is who purchased it, but if it isn't. I think buyers regret will kick in potentially, and I'm sure some of the other higher bidders will be a bit relieved now as well. It will be interesting to see if the person who had bid £25k actually ponies up the money. That is a subjective opinion though that others will not share I'm sure. I don't even think the paint job on it is that outstanding to be honest, obviously a very high calibre paint job but bland in some respect. I'm just fairly amazed it reached that much money though. He owns it, he gets to decide what he does with it. ![]() He said on numerous video's in regards to the thunderhark, even the one where he announced he would sell it, that it was his dream model to own/build/paint from his youth. I think Squidmar is a bit more pragmatic than we were expecting of such a presentable guy so it was surprising. it is unique and a result of an experiment: he would not let that go. I think this is why "52 Miniatures" gets my patreon donations because of how earnest he is and everything is an experiment with him. I really like Squidmar's wetblending but he does not seem to go very far out of his comfort zone. It remains to be seen what MidWinter Minis does with the Warlord Titan going together. or Goobertown go and sell something like that off. I hope the viewer that gave him a deal on it was not regretting much. He does have a fairly young family to support so he gets a bit of a free pass in that regard with me. He moaned a fair bit about the assembly that is for sure. It now seems his dream was to paint it only (and maybe make a fair bit of money). How it was originally presented by Squidmar was that we would pry that model from his cold dead hands before he would let that dream go. ![]()
